A Brief Introduction To The Acai Berry

The acai berry comes from a type of palm tree which is native to Central and South America. These plants typically grow in swamps and flooded areas. They are particularly tall palms, growing as high as thirty metres with leaves up to three metres long. Although this berry is certainly high in nutritional value and is good for you, the many claims that are made in the marketing campaigns to sell products based this are often quite absurd. People have also fallen victim to a number of scams involving products based on this. It is definitely something to be wary of if you are looking for weight loss products or other such things.

There is no doubt about it that the acai palm does have extremely good uses. Not only do its berries make for a popular food in the area where it grows, it also has many other uses. Minerals may be leached from the tree trunks and the leaves are often used to make hats and mats, thatching from roofs and construction of buildings.

The berries produced by the trees have a high content of seeds, comprising approximately eighty percent of the mass of the fruits. These seeds are then ground into food for livestock or they may also be used as an addition to organic soil. These seeds contain a high quantity of saturated fatty acids.
